Caral, Peru   Stone pyramids rise out of the high desert, some as tall as 60 feet; in front are barriers constructed from rounded river rock to keep sand from eroding. Stones define everything in the unburied and partially reconstructed pyramid city, 15 miles from the coastal city of Supe, Peru.
